Tent Permit Application

  • California Fire Code requires a permit for any temporary membrane structures/tents over 400 square feet.

  • A permit application and a single set of plans must be submitted to AVFD for approval at least 10 days before installation.

  • A site and structure inspection will be required after the Temporary Membrane Structure/Tent is erected, and before it is occupied.

Payment in full is required upon submittal of your request.

  • 400sq.ft to 699sq.sf $65

  • 700sq.ft to 2499sq.ft $98

  • 2500sq.ft to 4999sq.ft $163

  • More than 5000sq.ft $228

Plan Submittal Requirements

  • A site plan showing an unobstructed fire lane from the public road NOTE: The temporary membrane structure/tent cannot block any fire hydrants or fire department connections.

  • Documentation of structure stability (i.e. staking and bracing documentation and justification).

  • Total square footage of each tent/membrane structure

  • Distances between adjacent structures (min. 20 feet), internal combustion engines, and vehicle traffic.

  • CA State Fire Marshal flame resistant label permanently affixed to the material.

  • A note on the submitted plan stating NO SMOKING signs will be posted.

  • A note on the submitted plans stating a minimum 2A10BC fire extinguisher will be provided and mounted no higher than 48” above the finished floor.

  • Egress paths and exit signs locations.

  • A note stating the clearance of combustible vegetation (30 feet minimum).
